More Info - Jolicloud

I downloaded the Jolicloud ISO from their website and wrote it to a usb memory stick using usb-imagewriter in Ubuntu.

In my first post I said that Jolicloud uses your facebook login while Google's ChromeOS uses your gmail login.  That wasn't very clear.  You CAN use your facebook login to access Jolicloud BUT, you don't have to.

I also reviewed the beta, not release version 1.1.  Now I will, on a Samsung N150 Plus.

So, on to Jolicloud 1.1 standalone.

I am not sure how they pronounce it but I call it "jolly" cloud.   For the record, I logged in through Jolicloud, not facebook.

During the install, Jolicloud asks you for a username and password.  On first boot you will need to login to the "OS" using this information.  Once you log in to Jolicloud, your computer will be associated with your web account.  You will login using this "OS" login on all future logins.

Jolicloud offers everything I currently need in a netbook OS.  It uses Google's Chrome browser as it's default interface.  The chrome web store is fully functioning.  If you come equipped with any amount of Linux exposure, you will find all of the tools you are accustomed to.  My most treasured tool, remmina,  installed easily from the Synaptic Package Manager.

I love how the open apps are grouped neatly in the upper left corner.  They have a nice response on mouse over.  The "X" to close a window is in an interesting place, located at the far right of the top middle panel.  That's a feature I liked in the beta.  They make great use of the available space without being cluttered. No space is wasted.  That's my favorite feature of Google's Chrome Browser.

So here's the easy answer.  I use Jolicloud at work.  That's where I need to create and manage files and work with network resources.  Oh yeah, and use remmina for RDP to manage my servers.  I might have used it everywhere, but I just got one of those slick new Cr-48 netbooks from Google.  I'll have more on the Cr-48 later.
